Looking for brave souls to test out
« on: September 19, 2017, 10:32:41 am »
iOS 11.   ;D

Caught a headline that iOS 11 is available for download and I'm not too keen about losing some of my 32-bit apps right now.  So I thought I'd give it a few weeks and see how others like it.  Especially those with the 1st gen iPad Pro.  *hint hint*

My phone will upgrade when Corporate decides it is safe.   :-X

Brave or stupid, I’ve updated.

I only had three 32 bit apps to worry about and the developer of the one I use most has replied to say they plan to update it soon.

The camera scanner in Notes works fine - though Notes did crash the first time I opened it.
Haven’t tested much else yet

Keyboard - supposed to have the alt symbols printed on the keys to utilise the swipe down feature but my keyboard is still the old version so not sure what’s going on there

Really like the new Mac-style dock allowing up to 18 apps (iPad Pro) to be on hand

Hm ... I'll give it some thought for the weekend.  Those tutorial videos were interesting to watch though.  The bigger dock is going to be so nice for my regularly used apps.

I'm still hemming and hawing over some of my 32 bit apps though.

To tell if you have 32bit apps do the following:

Settings -> General -> About -> Tap the word ‘Applications’. If it goes to a new screen with a list of apps on it, these are 32bit and will not run under iOS11. If nothing happens when you tap applications, your solid.

I’m liking iOS11 so far. Takes a few moments longer than before to get the icons wiggling so you can move them about. Also I have no use for the ‘recent’ slice on the home bar. Settings -> General -> Multitasking. Last option turns it off.

Somewhat bizarrely the new swipe down keyboard has only appeared in a third party calendar app, and is not available in any of the Apple pre-installed apps which seems a bit strange as they are promoting it as an Apple feature.

Or perhaps I have to wait for all the apps to catch up to ios11!

Emojis - I can’t see any sign of the 56 new emojis supposed to come with iOS11

Translate - “sorry Siri cannot translate from British English yet” wtf?
Edit bah humbug you have to have Siri set to US English for translate to work. Poor show.

Thanks!!  I only have 3 apps that are listed and they aren't ones I use often and could easily get rid of.   ^-^

Just ran across this article.   A little tricky on Apple's part?  Or just bad design?

Prepping for work tonight, iPad Pro 12.9 iOS11 100% battery charge I powered it down. 2hrs later at work I tried to turn it on, continually got the no battery charge icon with prompt to plug ipad in to a wall. Did so. 20minutes later checked to still have no battery charge icon. Unplugged and plugged in ipad to charger cord 2 times. Bam iPad lit up to main screen, 100% charge.

Hmm.

Looks like this has been a fairly common problem, though the one website I looked at had pretty pathetic solutions...”make sure it is plugged in properly...do a hard reboot etc”

Hopefully it is just a one off for you but chargers not being recognised has definitely affected people.
