To Read or Not To Read - the recommendations thread
« on: March 22, 2015, 05:54:43 pm »
Just read a great book that you couldn't put down, or have a favourite that you could easily read again? Let us know.

Might be an idea to put any major plot giveaways in spoiler tags though!!
Currently playing...umm nothing much.
TWD No-Man’s Land but getting  very bored with it very quickly.

Would still be playing We Rule and Supernauts - if the devs could be bothered.

Have you seen any of the show? Just wondering how it compares to the book

I just finished Invisible by James Patterson.  Probably an old one of his but it kept me guessing till the very end.

And after those 900 pages, there are several more books with 900 pages. :D

I was able to watch the first 8 episodes. Some things have been omitted, or changed a bit and there are scenes that have been added, but for the most part it stays pretty faithful to the book. Some of the dialogue is word for word. The casting of Jamie & Clare is fantastic! I loved it!
Playing Clash of Kings K#1036, SuperCity and Animal Crossing.

Gatecon mentioned a book in one of the other book threads (I'm sure I'll find the right one sooner or later ;D) and I have just read it. It's by Andy Weir and it's called The Martian. I found it to be a book I just didn't want to put down. It's a scifi book and the storyline is about what happens when a small group of humans go to Mars to spend 2 months there but run into trouble after the first few days. It's an edge of the seat thriller (no, not a horror type thriller). I had a groan/laugh at some of the narration when it reminded me of those word maths questions, similiar to aberfitchjnr's questions in the happy street board. But don't let that put you off it!!!! ;D. I won't say more in case I spoil the storyline.

Now I'm off to see if I can get a copy of the Outlander book.

Maybe Outlander could be our first book club read. Anyone interested?

Good suggestion. I'll track down a copy for myself. I've not read it before, nor seen the TV show. So I'll go into it with fresh eyes so to speak :)

I'll track it down as well and make a post in all the other boards tonight.

I'd go for Outlander by Diane Gabaldon as well, but just took a peek at Amazon and I am a bit confused as it looks like there are multiple Outlander books with Cross Stitch being book 1.  Could someone clarify this for me as I wouldn't want to read something completely different :-)
I wouldn't mind trying The Martian by Andy Weir either.
I have just recently finished reading all three of the Hunger Games and saw the first 2 movies so far - waiting for a night of no studying or bad telly to watch the 1st part of the third.

my appologies as well for not contributing recently to the Book Club, I have been busy trying to figure out Ratio problems to help my daughter in maths. I think I have now successfully fried my brain and need some good reading time :-)

Yup Cross Stitch was the title of the US version of the first book in the series, followed by Dragonfly in Amber, Voyager, Drums of Autumn, The Fiery Cross, A Breath of Snow and Ashes, An Echo in the Bone and Written in My Own Heart's Blood

I'll take a look and see if I can "borrow" some copies of Cross Stitch for all the devices that people use (iOS, kindle, droid).

I've got the link for the ePub files for iPad. The site that I use, automatically recognizes your device so I can't get the kindle version. I'll send a pm to those that need access to the book file OR to the website that gives the kindle links. Send me a pm or let me know here and I'll send the info.
