Just started playing skyrim 3 days ago, so excuse my ignorance, from what I've heard/read this far is that you can only bind 2 spells, to the left and right mouse button? Is there no way to bind spells to the F-keys or something?
And if not, how do you manage it during fights? Keep them in favorites and hit Q during fights every time you need to heal yourself or use another spell?
I find it a bit confusing..
Oh and I tend to accidently set everything and everyone in sight on fire....good or bad  ;D
Any tricks to improve my aim? I try and scroll out so I can see my char and what's around me but in the heat of battle, I'm still having a bit of a hard time controlling those flames  ???

Welcome to skyrim shield-maiden :)

You have two primary buttons for mage like attack, left and right mouse. Additionally you have left + right mouse which will combine both spells. Favorites is where you should place everything else you like and thankfully hitting 'q' to bring up your favorites mid combat does pause the game.

I like having a staff on left mouse (you can infact choose which hand you hold your weapon on!) and a spell in the right. The staff uses no magicka and I have a collection of 4-5 staves in my equipment at all times for a variety of different situations. Regarding colateral damage... yea especially with those stream attacks friendly fire isn't very much avoidable. If your forced into a group situation swap to a single target attack and let the stupid party members tank everything with their face. Named npcs in your party will not die, if its a random no name who wants to be escorted somewhere, decline their request, go 'discover' the destination, come back and then fast travel their butts to the finish line.

My only gripe so far about this mage is that her staff does not remain visable when weapons are put away which is a shame. It should be across her back, every other weapon is visable at all times.

Mages in skyrim are definitely the micro-management class of the game. Archers + sneak = this games easy-mode-eyes-close-already-won it class of the game. I havent tried a face-shield-sword-shield class yet.

After further experimenting, when in a group situation go lightning. Its instant travel so no worries about group members walking in to it and so far neither of my two lightning spells do splash damage.

Aye, I've been using sparks during the dragon fight and it seemed to work better than fire  :)
I didn't know I could use the same spell in both hands, I've also haven't even seen a staff yet. Gonna have to check that out tomorrow.
Thanks for the hints.

Oh and one more..do you use a lot of alchemy? I've been trying to find a recipe chart, preferably one that lists potions by skill level. I found some guides, but no level sorted chart yet.  :-\

There's a 5 star rated alchemy guide on the app store :

Regarding being a mage, once you hit level 4-5ish head to the mage college and embark on their entire series of quests. Great storyline up there and plenty of solid equipment too. Plus when you complete the mage college chain you will be the headmaster of the school and the headmaster's private residence will now be yours :)

When I originally purchased the game I went with the steam digital download, regular edition. After playing it up to this point I regretted very much that I didn't fork over the extra 100 bucks for the collectors edition because I really really wanted that damn dragon statue. Over the last weekend duty one of my co-worker / friends spent two entire days sitting next to me asking skyrim questions, pointing out things, talking about the game, teasing, all the good stuff and by the end of that weekend duty he wanted the game badly. Since he didn't want the collectors edition he put in 60 bucks (regular price) and I put in the extra 100 bucks (collectors edition difference). He gets the game with map, I get the statue, art book and making of special disk.

Just afew photos there of Aduin, the World-Eater.

Oh and the art book is awesome, has this plush leathery feel to it, the skyrim badge on its front feels metallic, the book literally looks just like the 'skyrim' books found randomly throughout the game.

Just so people know, you can save your level up perk skills and use them up later. The benefit to this, you can play a bit and find your style (mage, nord, etc.), and then use the points on your style of play. Great insight on the game taeles!

If you're the type of player that likes to fast track and cheat a bit, not my style, YouTube OGHMA INFINIUM You can level all your skills in about 20 minutes. I plan on doing this after I complete the game as a nord and give the other races a try.

I think I know who wins that fight ;)

He'd go to attack the gift cart and only get to chew on it five times before it told him 'sorry you need to spend mojo to chew on me anymore'. He'd go to attack one of the more 'loaded' realms and would crash and have to reload in to the kingdom. He'd be sitting there pissed in the main realm wondering what to do and it would just crash again. He'd decide to attack the green castle only to see it upgrade to the ugly blue one. He'd kill that and gawk when it became even uglier (the lvl75 one). Finally he'd just hop out and go to chew on the icon till it was deleted only to see a mojo confirm button appear everytime he tried.

But, if the World Eater studied his enemy, he could keep coming back like a We Rule event and eventually bore him into submission. It seems to have worked before, based on a tome i found in a far away dungeon, a long time ago in Oblivion....

Lord Taeles, oh Master of the dragon slayers, knower of all games, expert fixer of technical glitches and furriest, friendliest, go-to guy....

I NEED YOUR HELP!!

I FINALLY got home from my trip, plopped myself down on the coach, ready to lose myself in the wonderful world of Skyrim and WHAM!!   I'm attacked by a measly apprentice outside of the keep where I'm supposed to find 3 missing books to bring back to Winterhold's College and he KILLED ME DEAD!!  Many times.  I could NOT figure out what the heck was wrong.  I reloaded, re-equipped myself and kept getting re-blown up.  It felt like something was wrong, so I loaded an earlier place where things were not so chaotic, walked around and discovered the problem.  When I use the LS to move, everything is normal.  I can move likkity split, but when I use my RS to look from left to right and up and down, it has been extremely slowed down.  It has the same slowing affect as it does when you're encumbered and try to walk, but it's only when I try to 'scan' quickly'.  This is a major handicap when you're in a hurry and need to see all of your surroundings.  I reloaded all previously saved games and it behaves this way in every one of them.

So, I trouble shooted:

1)  I re-booted the consule.  Nope.
2)  I cleaned the disk. Nope.
3)  I changed the batteries in the controller.  Nope.
4)  I tried using another game's disk, (still using my profile).  Everything there worked up to speed.
5)  I used my daughter's profile (who's also playing Skyrim) and it worked fine there.
6)  Since I'm not too thrilled with how I've played the game thus-far, I even tried starting ALL over.  Nope.  But, when I did start a 'new' game, it didn't ask me to re-create a new character.  It just started right up from the wagon ride to our execution before the first dragon attack interrupted.
7)  I went into the garage, grabbed our un-enchanted sledge hammer and made a sneak attack on the Xbox which was laid to rest with a proper burial in our garbage can.

....oh, how I wish #7 were true. >:(

Any help?  Suggestions?  Guesses?  Good recipe for chicken dumplings?

Thanks, Bud.  Baublehead.

Hey Bauble, try this:

Push start on controller
Use R1 to go to SYSTEM
Play around with INVERT Y and LOOK SENSITIVITY

Hopefully this fixes the problem, otherwise Taeles, the Dragonslayer will have to do better.

Good Luck

P.S. Any time you have a story character with you, feel free to beat them up and steal from them. It raises you skills for free and they never die! Just make sure you fast forward a couple of hours if they start fighting back and they'll be back to normal. Don't forget to crouch as well, since this will increase your sneak skill as well.

What Ninja said, check the sensitivities.

If that dosent address the issue also note, there are afew areas in the game where this 'slow' down problem persists due to so much going on at once on the screen. Does the game itself completely lag or just your controller responsiveness and if its the controller responsiveness is  everything else in game moving normal or does it only happen outside that dungeon or everywhere?  If its the entire game, all npcs and enviroment slowing down at times your just in a crowded area and this is a bug bethesda is continuing to work on. If its just you... have you checked your magic -> affects section to see if you have any diseases or negative effects that sound like they might cause your character to act this way?

Heh, heh, heh...  Hi guys.  Before I saw your responses, my daughter waltzed into the room, heard my frustrated sigh, saw me fiddling with the controls and asks, "Whussa madder, Ma?"  I told her and she says, "Well, ya ninny, go look at the 'Look Sensitivity' setting."

"The whu?", I asked.  She took the controller and while humming a cute, little tune, goes directly to the setting and it was ALL the way turned to slow.  Can I get a big, "DUH!?"  I don't know how the dern thing got changed in the first place, but there it was.  Because of my earlier complaint about the size and clarity of the font, I couldn't read what that particular setting even said!  I appreciate y'all's help.  I wasn't sure WHAT I'd do if I had to play the game like that all the way through.

Daughter sat down with me and watched me play, saw how flawed my character is and agreed that I should probably start a new character after deciding what kind of player I should be (Slash and Dash, or Magical), then sticking to leveling up with his/her best traits.  I'm a little bummed in that I've put in lotsa hours with this character, but I think that in the long run, I'll be happier.

Thanks again, my knights in shiny (fluffy) armor!!
